HALF MARATHON

DETAILS

- ONLINE registration closes 10/30 at midnight. However, we welcome you to attend packet pick-up at the Creamery to register in person.

The Mushroom Cap Half Marathon and Relay Event explores Kennett Square's landmarks, unique neighborhoods, and growing commerce. The race takes runners on a picturesque journey throughout the mushroom capital of the world. Hydrate with local aid stations throughout the course and vote on the winner! Immediately following, get your celebration on at our finish line festival hosted by our Title Sponsor, The Creamery !

From the runner swag, to the course, to the themed aid stations...It's the race that celebrates you!

The Mushroom Cap Half Marathon is a rain or shine event. We always hope and plan for sun but if the opposite holds true, we will run in rain, in wind, and in snow. Only EXTREME weather conditions (i.e. hurricanes or blizzards) will close the event. Our goal is to start this event on time at 8:00AM and have every runner safely finished by 11:30AM.

There is a 3:30 minute (16-minute mile) cutoff time for this race.  If your pace falls behind the cutoff, you will be asked to leave the course in the provided safety vehicle.

The KSQ Mushroom Cap 13.1 is a race where every runner counts!

The 4th Annual MCHM will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2019 starting promptly at 8:00am in front of The Creamery on Birch Street.

Post Race Celebration

Join us for an amazing finish line festival hosted by The Creamery! The beer garden will open at 9:00am and stay open until whenever the party ends. All age appropriate runners will receive one complementary pint of cold beer at the post-race bash. Come one, come all, the festival is open to runners, spectators, volunteers and community friends.

Rolling Hills

Both the half marathon and relay courses are beautiful and feature their share of rolling hills - particularly the second half of the course on Kennett Square’s quiet, rural roads. We encourage runners to review the course and prepare for these hills, particularly if chasing personal bests or qualifying times. An elevation chart can be found on the course map.

Time Limits

Runners and walkers are welcome to participate, however, on course-aid and roads can only be secured for a set amount of time based on municipality agreement, so all participants must be able to maintain a 16 minute mile or less and finish the half marathon in  3.5 hours. After this time, aid stations will be closed, police will no longer monitor traffic, and roads will be re-opened, making safe passage to the finish very difficult. In the event that you come in beyond this time limit Run2Shine will not be responsible for your safety. If you do not feel that you can maintain a 16-minute mile or less over the half marathon course, for your safety, please consider a different event. Perhaps our Relay Event!

HALF MARATHON

RELAY

Not everyone is up for 13.1 miles. A lot of runners prefer running with a mate and according to several studies, there is nothing better than getting your mate up early to run with you. The Relay allows two runners to share the distance of the half marathon, then to meet back up at the post-race festival and celebrate together.

Date: Saturday, November 2, 2019

Start Time: 8:00am

Location: Birch Street

Relay Exchange at 926/Mill Road

Description and Perks

. Runner 1 will run the start of the race from Birch Street to the relay exchange point at Mill/926

. Runner 2 will bring the energy home starting at Mill/926 and ending at the finish on Birch!

. Both runners will receive runner premiums, medals and beer tickets

. Music, medals, runner fuel and busing will be at the exchange

Registration Procedure

Relay runners must register as a 2 person team. The relay is limited to 250 runners (125 teams).

Materials

Relay runners will be given ankle chips for timing that will need to be exchanged at the relay exchange point. Be aware of what your bib number is as you approach the transition area, and look up for a sign relating to your number to help find your teammate. Once you enter the exchange area, your partner may take off! We do ask that you and your partner download RaceJoy so that you can track one another throughout the race.

Starting Location

. Runner 1  should report to the start line.

. Runner 2  will be shuttled to the relay exchange point

. Signage will indicate where team runner 2 should be positioned.

. Runner 2 will run the remaining miles.

Relay Exchange

100 yards prior to the relay exchange you will see an arrow exchange sign.

Relay Runners must stay to the right and enter the exchange chutes to make their exchange with team members.  Half Marathon runners will stay to the left.

There is a single staging area at the exchange for Relay Teams. Volunteers will call out incoming team numbers.  It is the responsibility of the Relay Teams and each team member to know when their team member will be arriving at each exchange. Knowing your teammates pace will help you preparing for the relay exchange.

Team member 2 will be waiting in their area and will be ready to take off for the second half of the race! Water and refreshments will be available for team member 1 at this point.

Relay Awards

Awards will be given to the overall fastest overall finishers in each relay category member team. Awards will not be mailed out. You must pick up your award in person or have someone pick it up for you.

CHARITY

This year's Charity 1 Miler will benefit Nemours Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children. Come join us for an 8:30 am start to support children with pediatric cancer. Your mile makes a difference!

RACE

FAQs

What are the age restrictions for each race?
Participants must meet the minimum age requirement by race day (November 2, 2019) in order to participate:
. Half Marathon requires runners to be at least 16 years old

. Half Marathon Relay requires runners to be at least 10 years old

. Age requirements are based on regulations by IMMDA (International Marathon Medical Directors Association). For further information and background, see: IMMDA Advisory Statement on Children and Marathoning.

I am a relay team captain. Do I still need to register as a team member?
Relay team captains are automatically registered as a team member when they register, pay and create a relay team. Relay team captains do not have to register a second time as a team member. Please do not create a team if you are not participating.

How long does our team have to complete the course?
The Half Marathon Relay course will be open for 3 hours. There will be two checkpoints along the course that will require participants to meet at least a 16:00 minute/mile pace. Any participants that do not meet these requirements must board a sweep vehicle, which will drop off near the finish line.

Can I defer my race to the following year or receive a refund?

Answer: Sorry, but we do not offer deferrals for future races or refunds due to injury.

Will bikes, skates, or baby joggers be allowed on the course?

Answer: No. Please we do not allow strollers for safety of the children in them.

Can I sell or give my bib to someone else?

Answer: No. You may not sell or transfer your bib to another person. Please do not do this as you jeopardize not only that runners safety but the safety of other runners on the course.

How do I get my race day packet?

Answer: Runners must pick up their packets at one of the Race scheduled Packet Pick Ups. However, we also realize that many of you come from longer distances to run this awesome race. Please use our bib mailing option if you are unable to get to a packet pick up event.

How do I switch between races in an event? Note: this option is only available through October 18th
